Ethnicity Pay Reporting
Due to the BLM movement and the recent revelations that Covid spread in poorer areas, which often coincided with ethnically, non-white populations, it is highly likely that the Government will introduce mandatory ethnicity pay reporting for larger companies (initially), to shine a light on the recruitment, retention and progression of staff across all ethnicities.
This will combine with reporting on the glass ceiling for women to gauge whether that employer’s diversity policies, relating to race equality and inclusion, are working.
Since the government closed its consultation, we have also had the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities report, which called for all employers who report ethnicity pay figures, to publish a diagnosis and action plan alongside those figures, presumably to highlight practices which are discriminatory and to aim to bring about an end to the disparity and inequality.
